Medicare is the health insurance program for American folks aged 65 and up. In some circumstances, individuals younger than age 65 can get Medicare. These circumstances can include, but are not limited to: handicaps, long-term kidney failure, and Lou Gehrig’s Disease. 

The Medicare program is designed to assist individuals with the cost of healthcare. However, it is important to know that Medicare does not cover all healthcare related costs you may have deductibles and co-pays. Medicare is financed by a portion of the payroll taxes that employers and workers are required to pay each year… in addition to partial funding from Social Security fees. Medicare is administered by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

Medicare has four core components which include hospital insurance, medical insurance, Medicare plans, and prescription drug coverage.

Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance) 

Medicare Part A helps cover the expenses incurred from inpatient treatment in a hospital… or from a skilled nursing facility follow a hospital admission. It also covers home healthcare and hospice treatment.

Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance) 

Medicare Part B helps cover the costs associated with doctors’ services, hospital outpatient care, x-rays and lab costs. It also helps cover various preventative services that help maintain a healthy lifestyle. Medicare Part B also helps cover a number of other health care services and products   such as durable medical equipment.     

Medicare Part C (Medicare Advantage Plans)

Medicare Advantage Plans are health plans run by Medicare-approved private insurance companies and are available in many locations. Medicare Advantage Plans Includes Part D Prescription Drug coverage. 

Medicare Part D (Medicare Prescription Drug Coverage)  

Medicare Part D assists with your prescription drug coverage and help cover costs associated with medicines prescribed by medical professionals.

These plans are offered through private insurance companies with a Medicare contract.
